DORSET SHOWGROUND NEWS UPDATE
- August 1st 2008 Many thanks to all who supported our raffle and hog
roast in July, the Admiral is at the moment calculating the final
figures for our donation to the Local Air Ambulance. August brings our Championships, the final show of
the season with lots of extra prizes. We have all the usual classes plus
our finals, a 1.10m Derby with an extra prize for the highest placed
under 21 and a special Ladies 1.25m Class with a silver snaffle
bracelet for the winner (not forgetting the £100), silver snaffle
earrings for 2nd prize (+ £75) and two tone snaffle earrings
for 3rd (+£50). The
Ladies class is open to all lady BSJA members who have jumped on one
other day of this show. The Amateur Championship and the Grovely Sports
Horse Young Horse Championship have a rug & £125 for the
winner & winning owners prizes. The Amateur Championship and the Classic
Championship (£200 1st prize) both have a special prize for
the highest place Region ‘J’ rider. On Saturday as well as the Ladies Class we have the
1.15m Open Championship Final and a 1.30m Open/Bath & West
Qualifier with £125 1st prize, could be a good warm up
for the Grade ‘C’ at Mid Somerset next day. There is a £50 cash prize for the most
successful rider at the show, affiliated or unaffiliated.
Points will be awarded throughout the show. 1st -8, 2nd
–6, 3rd –5, 4th – 3, 5th –2, 6th
-1. Rider with most points
wins the £50. Vouchers for Cream Teas/Coffee and Pastries
for all winners in both arenas on Thursday. For unaffiliated riders of horses and ponies we
have our usual classes, a starter stakes, 60-65cm, with baseball caps
for 1st, 2nd & 3rd. (kindly donated
by Horseneeds, our on site tack shop at the shows.)
Two Shires/ Ridgeway Rider qualifying competitions, a
Derby (90cms) with a sash and cup for the winner plus a runner up prize.
There is also a prize for the highest placed Dorset rider. The Unaffiliated Points Championship is
being hard fought but there are three chances to gain points during this
show, so not sure how big I should get the rug for the winner on
Saturday 16th !!! Schedules for August have been posted and are on
our web site together with entry and stabling forms. Points, results and lists of qualified horses for
the Championships in August are posted on the web site, if you’ve any
queries please don’t hesitate to contact me. (There are still chances
to qualify for most of the Championship classes at the show.) Don’t forget horses qualified for the Grovely
Young Horse and Church Farm Minor championship qualify for half price
temporary stables at the August show.
You are welcome to use your stables for the extra night/s if you
are going onto Mid Somerset on Sunday 17th at no extra
charge. We have a new venture this season which is
proving a great success. We have a qualified Sports Masseuse
offering neck & shoulder massage.
So what could be better after competing than a massage, hot
shower and an excellent dinner at the pavilion or one of the local pubs.
Sounds a bit like a holiday to me!!
You’ll need to queue behind me! Coffee, lunch and afternoon tea is available at
the pavilion, or on the terrace each show day, also an evening
meal on Friday & Saturday, details in the schedule, or on the
website. Bookings for
lunch & evening meals please. Julian is now regional representative for BSJA
Region “J” and if you have anything you’d like to discuss with him
please give him a ring on the showground telephone number or e-mail him
at julian@dorsetshowground.co.uk
. He does welcome feedback and needs your views on all things BSJA. Thank you for reading our update service, we hope
you find the information given here helpful.
This service will be updated regularly on our website with any
new information. Look forward to seeing you in August. Shirley
